Fucking A stands for Apple

and then the computer gave me the gray screen of death. and then when I restarted it the HD spun up and then stopped. and then it spun up and didn't stop but nothing else happened. and then it wouldn't stop spinning until I unplugged it and popped the FUCKING BATTERY. and then it started up normally but now th HD sounds like a dot matrix printer. I am NOT happy.

Oh, and did I mention the clock reset to 1969?

Ahh now you see the advantage of PCs: when they break, people have experience fixing them.

Well, when Macs break, Apple Care people are supposed to have experience fixing them, and they're supposed to break less. I'm becoming skeptical though. I bought the Mac b/c it's run on a unix basis and at the time I was a grad student in astro (i.e., linux/unix required), and b/c of the reputation of having everything integrated smoothly. As I hit the end of my warranty though, I'm suspecting that it's a failed experiment. Unless I can get them to replace everything and extend the warrantee though. but either way, I think I better bring the desktop PC w/ me in a couple weeks.

I swear, they owe you a new one. And everyone else I know that has used Appple Care has had such a good experience!! Phoo. :p

T$'s friend Jason sent his laptop in for work and got back someone else's. But lots of people have had billions of things fixed right as the Apple Care warantee ran out - don't know if it's b/c they wanted to milk it for all the could, or b/c they all failed at the same time, or a bit of both as in my case (with added incompetence).

"Fuck the cosine" is now my "I'm pissed off" icon. :-P

overall, I would say that macs are more reliable but their tech support makes dell look good :(
as far as the car search goes, have you considered a scion. I loved my xA. really reliable, cheaper than a civic, and better gas mileage.

I did in fact, it was one of the first cars I test drove. I liked the ride a lot, but (1) I keep getting wierded out by the instrument panel being in the middle. (2) I'm less certain of the reliability than you, as the Scion name hasn't been around as long as it's parent Toyota (though Toyota is really good). there are other thoughts I have, but it's almost 2am and I've been driving my mom's car for the last3 hours. i'm going to sleep!

Well, I put 25k miles on the Scion without complaints, and it took me about a hundred miles to get used to the gauge cluster location. The xA is actually a Toyota model only available in Japan (or maybe everywhere but the US). The tC was the first newly designed scion, but all the major mechanicals (engine, trans, etc) are still toyota parts bin parts.
