An Accounting of Accounts

Well, I think I know why I don't use Livejournal as my main blog. I mentioned before the steep learning curve with customizing the look of a blog either here or at Blogger. Turns out the learning curve is steeper at Blogger--but that's misleading. Livejournal allows you to pick certain themes, then to customize them by clicking boxes on a form to pick different colors, for example. Blogger allows you to pick certain themes, then to customize them by editing html code. See the difference? Livejournal's easier to use, but allows less freedom.

Well, in the free version. I could do it if I paid some two bucks a month. This means I can't use an RSS feed to post Blogger entries on my Livejournal account, I can't use frames to embed it, and I can't learn AtomX even if there were intelligible tutorials out there for it. I thought I had a solution that wouldn't involve haxxoring the html of LJ: emailing posts. Write the intended post in an email and send it to the posting account of both. Turns out that too, is a paid feature of LJ. Well, what about posting it on LJ and having that send an email to the Blogger input email? Paid.

You may say, "two bucks a month isn't all that much!", but I am settled comfortably in my Blogger account. There are only two things that LJ has that Blogger doesn't: a few of my friends use LJ instead and can't easily put my new posts on their "friends" page (waa waa, they should pay for my LJ account if they want it so bad), and free mini photo (100x100 pix) hosting (but I can just remote host any images I want to show on Blogger). So at this time I'm sticking with Blogger. Hop over there for my real entries. :)
