(no subject)

Earlier today I found myself wondering why everyone was calling this election a historic one.

...

And then I remembered that Obama's black.

And for the next year they're going to be talking about the first black US President.

And then the year after, or maybe the one after that, we'll have forgotten it, and it will be a non-issue for everyone else too.

Then we'll truly be living in the future.

Heh. It always struck me as strange when people said they wanted to marry someone "like them" (same race) - because there isn't really anyone "like me" (Asian and Caucasian). I've met very few my own generation, and seen maybe a couple dozen children. I'm not really going to find another person w/ my ethnic background, so what's important is finding someone whose heart and mind matches mine, not their skin color or eye slant.

Interestingly though, I've only actually dated Caucasians - moreover, only had serious relationships with people who had a lot of Irish in them, which I don't have any of at all! :-P

Really? My HS was full of 1/2 Asians, but to be fair I'm a bit younger than you. I also think I had a total of 5 straight friends back then too...

My HS was 1/3 Jewish, 1/3 Asian, and yet I was the only halfling. *shrugs* I fulfill both stereotypes of nerdish kids!
