Spanish learning?

Can anyone recommend a phrase book and CD set for me to learn Spanish? I had a year of it in college but I retain nothing. I want CDs so I can listen in the car. I had I think Barron's "French Made Easy" phrasebook and tape set and I really liked how the two complimented each other, but they don't seem to have the same thing in Spanish.

I can definitely vouch for the Michel Thomas CDs as they are superb, better than any other language course I've tried. They don't use books or exercises ekcetera, it is just listening and speaking along with grumpy old Michel and his students. It builds your confidence to be saying useful things in Spanish and it is fun to do in the car! :D

See, I joke that I've got "subway Spanish" because I can read signs in the NYC subways. I had 4 years of Latin and the one of Spanish in college, so I can puzzle out simple written Spanish. I don't have any vocabulary though so I can't compose things on my own, and I also cannot understand it aloud at all.

Well it sounds like the Michel Thomas course would be perfect for you then, it is all based around speaking and understanding. Do not just take my word for it though as you can ask anyone who knows it and I bet they will be wildly enthusiastic about it. It is that big of a difference from any other language courses!

My friend Aaron had great sucess with something called Rosetta Stone or something similar.
