Autism

If you haven't already seen this video on YouTube, check it out here. Amanda Baggs has "low-functioning autistism" - and yet... Watch it.

And then compare it with her interview with CNN doctor/news anchor Gupta. He's got this strange combination of being impressed and being condescending.

And the accompanying text articles.

the CNN version appears to be missing the pre-‘translation’ part.

I think CNN just yoinked the one "translation" video from YouTube, and I haven't gone looking for others.

i'm mostly just struck by how much Gupta doesn't get it, on account of all the things he says about how Ms. Baggs must feel that she specifically denies in the very video that got him interested. there are all sorts of things she might be wrong about, but the one thing she seems competent to judge is what she wants.

How much do you think his him not understanding her, and how much is playing to the camera?

I was surprised he said that she used the term neuro-typical "jokingly". No actually, that's the term used in the mental disability community for "normal" people, it's not a joke. He didn't really do his research.
