More Menu Foods Income Group rage

Not only did it take them 25 days to announce the recall, but according to a comment to that post, the first press release on that day was to Cananda press, instructing them NOT to inform the US press.

Meanwhile, although Menu Foods Income Group has confirmed only 15 cat deaths and 1 dog death as of yet, they have said nothing regarding the illegal rat poison that NY State/Cornell have found in the foods, and other sources have as many as 1,000 pets dead. Considering that the first article linked above says that Menu Foods Income Group tests on their own lab cats/dogs resulted in 1 in 6 animals dying, I'm sure we're going to find many more than 1,000 pets deceased when it tapers off.

And for official information, the FDA has a page on it, including FAQs and how to report if your pet has been affected.

Gah!

Yes, I've seen news broadcasts here (southern California) and so far there have been 14 deaths... one woman lost BOTH her dogs on the same day. I couldn't watch the whole report. ;__;

Thankfully our dog hasn't had any of the listed food. I really don't know what I'd do if she died unexpectedly.

Thanks for the post!
I called my mom (they have a 15 yr old cat, plus they end up feeding a lot of the local strays), but she said my dad already checked and I verified their results. I also posted it on my LJ, as a lot of my friends have dogs & cats.

That whole thing makes me incredibly sad. Some people do not realize that pets are our children, not just a replaceable object.

I was surprised that only one person after the death of Peeper said to me "what's the big deal, she's only a bird". Honestly, I had expected more. People who grow up with cats or dogs sometimes don't realize that other pets have personalities too.
