Good and Evil

After reading someone else's comment in response to Jerry Falwell being dead, a "true Christian" type response saying that Falwell was trying to do what he thought was right and we should forgive him for being fallible and human, I couldn't help but think that that was the same way that Anakin Skywalker aka Darth Vader started off. Just trying to save his wife, his mentor, and the Republic from the forces of death and chaos.

one can also fail spectacularly to forgive, but in a way that doesn't involve taking any particular glee in the suffering of others.

On the other-other hand:

* He's dead, he isn't suffering
* His family and associates aren't going to read zandperl's lj
* Now, he is no longer hurting anyone else. While living, he was.

That last point, alone, is worth celebration and joy.

Reminds me I've been pondering if schadenfreude and compersion are opposites.
