The problem with cleaning...

The problem with cleaning, I'm finding, is that you can't just do it once and be done with it. You can't even just clean the whole house over the course of a couple weeks and be done with it. No, every single day, every single action you take, has to be done with cleanliness in mind. You bring the mail in - but you have to read it and put it away with cleanliness in mind, or else you have increase the pile that's slated to be cleaned on Monday. You do the wash and bring it up stairs, but if you don't put it all away, then when you change your clothes you have no where to put the newly sullied clothes but on the floor.

Today I did four bags of laundry, amounting to around 6 machines. Two bags or so were my normal load from a few weeks of procrastination (I'm *so* looking forward to having a machine in the same building so I can do wash at convenient intervals!), and then another two bags from cleaning the house and finding summer clothes that I needed. And now I have three laundry bags on my bedroom floor and one in the dining room, and a pile of clean clothes that came out of the laundry basket so I could do the wash is sitting on my bed. I cannot sleep until at least the one on the bed goes away, and I don't want to go to bed until I've cleaned out another bag or two, or at least the basket so I can put the shirt I wore while doing laundry into the basket or a sorted bag.

I feel the hurt....we're trying to move, and everything has to be done with "Where will this go, and how many boxes do we have left" in mind. It's ridiculous!

I thought I would just die of dirty laundry if I moved into a place that didn't have a washer and dryer in the unit. But I didn't die. But at least the laundry room is merely three half-flights of stairs away. I'm pretty sure I would die of dirty laundry if I actually had to travel more than 0.05 miles to get it done. Ew.

My laundromat is 3 blocks away - far enough that I drive to it. :(

My new place has a washer and dryer in the basement, yay! I wonder how this'll impact my separating lights and darks, hots and colds. I wonder whether T$ and I will wash stuff together or not.

I've started to dust once a week, confirming the notion that I'm becoming my mother.

Part of the Hacker mentality is to find ways of simplifying things and also never redoing work that has already been done. Cleaning violates all of that. You constantly have to do it and there are no shortcuts. It sucks.

Aw, there's no lifehack for cleaning my house? I do find that having lots of storage units (shelving, garment racks, etc.) helps a lot though. More so if they're transparent and not covered, so I don't just shove things in and forget them - out of sight becomes out of mind for me.

Cleaning my clothes a couple weeks ago I tried a mental trick where before I started I decided the categories of clothing to keep - teaching (school year), teaching (summer), casual (summer), casual (winter), dress up - and anything that didn't fit, I pitched. It helped me get rid of things, and it continues to help me w/ organizing, but it doesn't mean I'll never have to do it again.

We signed up for Husky Express and are having our laundry done by others and then dropped off at our doorstep. I can't stand laundry. I hate it and therefor it doesn't get done. If this gets us to do it often then it's definitely worth the money, not to mention the time it saves.
