New Cage

I'm going to buy Everyone's Favorite CageTM finally. What color should I get?

[Poll #1055750]

Comment if you need more space. Funny that a new awesome huge cage costs only $119, while the heated perch I'm also going to get costs a whopping $42.

My 2nd vote (and more realistic one) would be for white or platinum, because a white cage won't make the room dark (I have a big white cage, although not Everyone's Favorite model).

I'm torn about the blue, b/c it might clash w/ gabe's yellow/orange. White she'd blend in with, and I feel like poop and dirt would stand out a lot...

It's true, dirt (bird crap, food smears from birds wiping their beaks off, etc.) does stand out on white, so it's really obvious when the cage needs cleaning. On the other hand, I only clean when things look like they need cleaning, so white works for me.

Hooray! I love that cage. It's so sturdy! I, too, can't believe it's so cheap. Nothing for birds is that cheap! Nothing quality, anyway.

I have it in grey (platinum?), which is nice and light, but if I was going to buy another one I might get a more fun color like blue.

Yay! New cages are so exciting!

I think I"m leaning towards charcoal gray - I worry that blue/green would clash w/ Gabe's colors, and be too eye-catching. I want something that won't look huge, but white would show dirt a lot. I think you must have the platinum, since I recall it being white-ish. Does dirt and their poop show up horribly on it?

Yeah, I avoided the white like the plague for the same reasons. (Who gets a WHITE bird cage? Yikes!)

In my experience, the light grey has enough color that the poop and flung wet foods don't show up glaringly, but it's also a light enough color that it doesn't stand out much. My fear with the charcoal was that it would be a big, black cage that really drew the eye.

I am very happy with the platinum (or whatever it's called). If you'd like, you can stop by and take a look at it again before you order yours. :)

I've had both black and white cages that look absolutely horrible when even slightly dirty. The blue marble-ish cage I have now looks great. Don't worry about it clashing with Gabe, Gabe looks a lot like my Diana, and she looks nice in that cage.

The heated perch is great too, just make sure Gabe doesn't want to be a weird bird like my Tammy and perch on the outside of the cage. Since it is almost always warm here, I bought it for Autumn's arthritis and it has done wonders.

Good point about perching outside the cage.

I've also heard a lot about ceramic heat lamps. I think I'm going to get both a heated perch and a ceramic heat lamp, and I don't know what color big cage yet but I will, and put each of the two heat options on either side of the cage so I can figure out which one she likes better. That's the scientist in me... :)

I have wrapped the outside of Autumn's heated perch with a layer of duct tape to keep Tammy from getting hurt by the wires, and then a layer of vet wrap to keep her from falling off because she will perch there anyway. If that helps at all.

Unfortunately, none of the pet stores in the area carry them. But I'll be ordering one online soon. Once it comes, I'll take a gander at it. If it looks like the wires are or could be exposed, I'd recommend putting electrical tape as the first (most interior) layer rather than duct tape - electrical tape doesn't conduct electricity while other tapes might.

The wires are already wrapped, so conductivity isn't much of a worry, I used duct tape because I have found it is harder for my birds to remove it.

I've been lapsing on reading -- have you made a decision?

Yes, my 10 gallon aquarium cost $11, and the sun lamp (just the bulb!) costs about $40, and needs to be replaced every year.

Just yesterday - went with blue b/c of this poll. :-P I really didn't have a solid reason otherwise.

Fab! Hope Gabe loves. Pictures when it arrives?

[identity profile] zandperl.livejournal.com 2007-09-18 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'll probably do pictures of putting it together too. :-P I might not swap cages out immediately though, as I want to give her the chance to see it and get used to it first.
