Dog-eared

Wednesday was my first final exam. As soon as I walked into the classroom I realized the TV on the side of the room was on. Then I looked at the screen and saw something on the screen. Yeah, I heard it before I saw it. And it was driving me NUTS! And amazingly, no one else ever notices. I have dog ears or something, I'm a freak.

When alot of speakers are on but not being used they make a noise. But I have weird freak hearing too. I hate working with ultrasonics because my hearing range goes up just high enought hat I can hear them. It sounds like someone is rubbing fingernails on a chalk board inside your head or something equally as unpleasant.
So I know how you feel.

The physicist in me wants to know what is actually vibrating to make that noise. :-P

I'm with you. I can always tell when a tv is on. Sometimes people turn off their cable box and not the tv, and that bugs me because I can hear that high-pitched, constant tv noise.

That's always seemed like a lazy thing to do. Especially since you're not fully acheiving the goal of ceasing all distractions - but of course, if they can't hear the TV, it won't an issue for them. I wonder whether the cable box or TV with nothing on the screen draws more electricity.

i also hate that noise!! people think i'm crazy when i walk into their house and i'm like, "hey, is your tv on?" and it is.

Yeah, my students were all giving me dirty looks. Well, surprised. I'm not sure they believed me when I said I heard it from the moment I walked into the room. But I definitely heard the TV was on and then checked the screen to be sure.
