LHC Rap

Just for you [livejournal.com profile] meleah, it's the Large Hadron Rap. Show it to your kids - I'm probably going to show it to mine tomorrow.

Oooh. I think its a bit long for two classes that have nothing to do with physics except in the usual very general senses. But thanks, it amused me heaps!

I'm really tempted to take out a class from my astro class and show it, since I'm sure they've heard all the crackpot theories and it's worth my while to debunk them the best I can. I wish I understood it better though.

It was an entertaining video. I would agree that it would be a worthwhile use of a science class to talk about it. It's going to be awhile before something that expensive gets built for science again, and it will probably be just as long before something gets as much media attention. Even if the attention is people saying "OH NOES THEY'RE GOING TO DESTROYING THE WORLDS!!!111!!one" If I was a staff science person at a major media outlet I would probably haven resigned over this. It was just on ABC world news.

Hah hah that's great!
Some people have way too much time on their hands.

Nah, that's actually part of her job. The creator of it, Kate McAlpine, is a science writer for CERN I believe, so she probably got to do it on the clock.

That was brilliant! A very accessible way to introduce the basic concepts.

I did show it in class today. One of the students muttered that it was the worst thing they'd ever seen as it ended, but hopefully at least one other student found it interesting. And there were three students who asked a bunch of questions during my own summary of it all, and quite a few others appeared interested, so hopefully it go through to some.

If that is the worst thing they have ever seen, they they have lived a charmed life.
