Summer projects started!

This summer's projects you may recall included making music. Well, I've started! Today I worked for a while on a song that I just could *not* get right, so I quit and instead started working on "Brown Eyed Girl" (Van Morrison) and it came out quite well.

There are some flaws in the producing at the first bridge/chorus; in my first recording I stumbled a bit on the words, and when I re-recorded it it didn't sound quite the same. (This was the problem I was having with the first song I attempted, but it wasn't quite as bad for this one so I was willing to accept it.) Thankfully the guitar track I only had one obvious mistake, a gap in time, which is easy to correct without doing a second take. The guitar track error caused some gaffes in the vocal takes, and fixing them led me to the idea of overlapping multiple vocal tracks at the end.

Maybe for my next song I'll work on vocals only - there's some rounds I can do a capella that I think could sound really nice.

I thought you already knew Brown-Eyed Girl. You played/sang it at the staff talent show in...04.2? 05.2?

My summer project is not to learn new songs. It's to record songs, regardless of whether they're new to me or old. I have learned that recording is much less forgiving than playing live.

Ah okay, I misinterpreted.
