Sick people?

Webcomic Striptease has recently been doing a run on a goth/fetish club incident. Actually prompted me to comment on the author's community that goth != fetish.

And then I read on another webcomics artist's blog that a man who embezzled money to see dominatrix is going to be thrown in jail for a few years. That author/artist said "we're giving him what he deserves," and my instant response was "no, because there's no consent involved, plus we don't know his specific fantasies and chances are this won't fit them." (BTW, this is the dominatrix he visited - Not Safe For Work. I'd love to see a statement on her webpage disavowing his embezzlement and giving back the money or something...)

How'd I get to know so much about the kink community?

I'm not sure whether this strip series is a stunning parody of goth/fetish clubs, or whether it was written by someone who's hardly been to one and therefore has no clue what they're talking about.

If it's the latter, I find it un-funny and vaguely annoying. Kicking someone out of a club for displaying a positive emotion? Puhleaze.

I'm guessing/hoping the author isn't into the goth/fetish scene but is having fun mocking the stereotypes.

Thing is, it's such an untrue stereotype that it rings totally hollow to anyone who's been to a goth club. Not like I'm against making deserved jabs at goths and fetishists, mind you. But...

Combined with open-mindedness, I think.
