Bird drama

I think I'm going to not post new posts to [livejournal.com profile] parrot_lovers if I can help it, and instead post to [livejournal.com profile] parrots101 - or maybe cross post for a while before phasing out the PL posts so that I can possibly get others to switch over to 101 as well. I plan to continue commenting on PL though. But so if you don't see me there as much, that's why. Too many feathered llamas.

"feathered llamas"?

[identity profile] zandperl.livejournal.com 2008-04-24 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If I have to explain....

The phrase "drama llama" refers to situations where there's just way too much stupid drama crap on LJ (b/c LJ loves the Frank the Llama for some reason). Since it's "parrot lovers" the drama llama's gotta have feathers like a bird.

PL is a very good community for information. However there are a few vocal minorities who think it's okay to bludgeon newbies and that this will get them to fix their ways, or that it's okay to speak in absolutes of What is Right For All Birds in All Situations, or that saying someone's ideas are stupid is not at all criticizing the individual who originates those ideas. And of course when more rational members try to correct or clarify or calm these people, we get chewed out, sometimes by those members, sometimes by others, and sometimes even by the mods.

Like I said, drama llama.

Only feathered.

aha! Saying "drama llamas" would have made it clear; I just thought you were referring to some non-parrot llama-esque bird.

Well, toucans always struck me as somewhat llama-like.

Huh, I guess your'e right. Okay then, why does every like llama so much? Just b/c of the rhyme? Sad.

Post where you can get the most out of it, for sure. There may be things people in p_l can help with more or things you need more responses to and that's fine. I appreciate as many posts as we can get but I don't want anyone to feel they have to choose between one place or the other. I'm just happy to offer a place that doesn't have quite so many "strings" attached I guess.

Yeah, parrot lovers can get that way. There are times when I have written a whole post and decided not to post it. It seems any kind of pet forum attracts people who think you can do no right or are a little overzealous. I hadn't heard of parrots 101, I shall join now!

[livejournal.com profile] eterri runs it, that's how I heard of it. It's not as populated yet, and so far is less informative, but hopefully if enough of us start posting there it'll eventually make a difference.

I dropped out of there two days ago, what did I miss this time?

[identity profile] zandperl.livejournal.com 2008-04-25 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Not directly on PL. I'd been reading [livejournal.com profile] eterri and apparently someone started the community [livejournal.com profile] parrot_foolish which consists/ed mostly of reposts and mocking of PL members' posts w/o their permission (which besides being a ridiculous thing to do, is also against the LJ TOS). Soon after eterri commented on it in her journal someone apparently saw her comment and ran to lock or delete all the posts on PF, so they are not now viewable. She didn't name who had posted these or anything, but you can make guesses from the member list.

Ooh, good to know about the new(?) community.

I'm SO glad I just read this post. You know I've been struggling with PL for a while now. I hate how contradictory some are. Like the ones who are absolutly against breeding birds, but yet half their flock are breeder born birds, and have more on the list from said places.

And like you said, informing people is one thing, belittling them is another.

I'm so excited eterri started this! I'm joining like now!

It sounds to me like the community is old, but never really had all that much action. I haven't posted anything lately, but when I do it'll be to Parrots101 at a minimum, possibly x-posted with a note that it was to see if I can lure some more people over there.
