The Sisterhood

Once in a while the webcomic Sinfest does a really awesome storyline. (FYI it's more typical to have stoners, horndogs, and puppy dogs, though they're usually done in a somewhat self-mocking manner.) Here's one such storyline pasted in its entirety.

I'm just impressed by all the effort that went into the Sunday (green) strip with all the comments (vertical, in white) that women see every day. It makes me reevaluate my opinion of Ishida - the protagonist of the strip, Slick (the guy in strips 2 and 3, "Privileged Male" and "Third Wave Feminist") is very misogynistic, and Monique (the gal who goes into the matrix) is definitely a follower of pop-culture/style and though she tries to rebel she does it in socially acceptable ways.

The bare midriff strip rubs me the wrong way, as if it's saying it's wrong to wear skimpy clothing.

I interpret it as saying that the character (Monique or 'Nique) feels forced into wearing such clothing by societal standards. That is also in agreement with 'Nique's character elsewhere in the series - she goes through periods where she is a slave to fashion and where she rebels against it.

I see...I don't read Sinfest very often.
