Alfred University, my alma mater, came in 14th in US News & World Report's annual college ranking, in the category of Northern Master's Universities. That is higher than things like Assumption College, Rutgers University, numerous SUNYs and CUNYs (though others may be in different categories), Springfield College, and UMass Dartmouth. I would've put Bucknell University, where I did an REU, in the same class as Alfred, but either they're a different category or they're no good b/c they're not listed there.

Master's Universities
Master’s universities provide a full range of undergraduate and master's programs, but few, if any, doctoral programs. They are ranked within four regions: North, South, Midwest, and West. (USNews.com)
