I saw this awesome movie this weekend,
Night Watch. It's a Russian-language (subtitled) epic Good-vs.-Evil-with-vampires (sci-fi/fantasy/horror) movie that is *EXTREMELY* well-done. I highly
highly recommend it, worth travelling to your nearest (or second nearest) major city for a place it's showing. There are really good visual effects - more of camera tricks than typical "special effects," and the subtitles are not a stock font, but in a style fitting the mood. There's a lot of psychedelic flash-backs and -forwards, so that I could see it again and get even more out of it. And there's an element of the bizarre running through the movie that shows you they're not taking themselves over-seriously (I'm told the original Russian had even more jokes than the subtitles reveal).
The music is good too, in my opinion, with the Blade style metal giving it an edgy feel. Stick around during the credits until they change to typical credits music, as during the first part they have clips from the movie, and a brief prieview of Day Watch (aka Night Watch 2). Speaking of which, Night Watch was released in Russia in 2004, and Day Watch is already in advance showings there. I can't wait until it's out. :)
After you've seen the movie, check out the
2-minute version for yet another chuckle.
