"In the lane, ain't it pretty?"
Dec. 16th, 2007 10:15 amI woke this morning to 6" atop my car, and a similar amount in the unplowed streets.
The other day my dad suggested that 6" is the cutoff for unplowed material that my car will get stuck in. Scary. I'm glad we went grocery shopping yesterday. Looking across the street at the neighbors cleaning their cars off, their cars have 8" and I think we only have 6" on ours b/c of the pine trees overhead.
I feel bad for the poor birdies who usually come to my feeder - not only have I not filled it in a while, but now it's covered with snow! I'm goign to have to trek out there and clean the car off. Especially before that inch of ice is laid down atop it.
A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING.
SNOW WILL CONTINUE TO FALL MODERATE TO HEAVY AT TIMES THROUGH MID MORNING. THE SNOW WILL CHANGE TO SLEET FROM SOUTH TO NORTH BY LATE MORNING AND THEN POSSIBLY TO FREEZING RAIN THIS AFTERNOON. SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 5 TO 10 INCHES. A LAYER OF ICE WILL BE POSSIBLE ON TOP OF THE EXPECTED SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION. THE PRECIPITATION INTENSITY WILL TAPER OFF SIGNIFICANTLY THIS AFTERNOON.
UNTREATED ROADWAYS ARE SNOW COVERED AND VERY SLIPPERY THIS MORNING. TRAVEL IS NOT RECOMMENDED.
A WINTER STORM WARNING IS ISSUED WHEN AN AVERAGE OF 6 OR MORE INCHES OF SNOW IS EXPECTED IN A 12 HOUR PERIOD OR FOR 8 OR MORE INCHES IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD. A WARNING IS ALSO ISSUED WHEN SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND/OR ICE ACCUMULATION IS FORECAST THAT WILL MAKE TRAVEL DANGEROUS. TRAVEL WILL BE SLOW AT BEST ON WELL TREATED SURFACES...AND QUITE DIFFICULT ON ANY UNPLOWED OR UNTREATED SURFACES.
