Origami Turtle?
Oct. 7th, 2007 12:33 pmI'm freaking out b/c I can't for the life of me remember how to make this origami turtle! It was one of my faves, and now I'm blanking totally!

I learned how to make it from instructions on turtle paper much like those in the above images. And now I can't remember... Anyone either know how and able to describe it - I'm thinking it starts with folding opposite edges to the center - or have directions they can scan in, or able to find them on the net (*cough*
oh_chris *cough*)?

Date: 2007-10-08 12:53 am (UTC)I'm going to count on you remembering steps as you go...because the onlien instructions I found suck...but:
1. Fold it in half, and half again (both vertically and horizontally).
2. Unfold it and fold it diagonally in half.
3. Unfold it and start with it folded in half (rectangle!)
4. Fold the top right and top left corners in, so you have a /\ shape.
5. There should be a horizontal crease in the middle of the triangle, fold the bottom up using that crease as the middle. At the same time, pinch in the two sides (they were the bottom corners of the triangle before you began folding it). You should get a house shape.
6. Do this to the other side, too.
7. Using the 4 diagonal creases on the bottom of the "house shapes", pinch them into a triangle with the loose part pointing up (this doesn't make sense, really).
8. Do this to all 4 diagonal creases.
9. Fold the top, 4 loose points to the outside, making the "feet" (I think turtles have flippers, technically)
10. Flip those flippers down, and fold the loose triangle down 1/2 to the middle crease.
11. Repeat on other side.
12. Fold flippers back up, and then fold the bottom half in to the middle to cover the flippers.
13. Fold turtle in half (press the flippers together so you can work with the other paper in the middle)
14. Flip the bottom points up on both side to create a "head" and "tail".
15. Fold turtle in half (flippers on the outside again!)
16. Pull flippers down gently and voila! Turtle.
My IM is july24th2053. If you get super confused... :]
