Yeah... haha :) I definitely had more interest in the test after I read the books (well, I'm still partway through the 3rd one, but yeah). I do feel slightly awkward having the same daemon as lord asriel though!

I'm curious how much of the anti-organized religion they're going to do. I mean, considering that I've heard the series referred to as "Narnia for atheists," and considering how religious the US is, I really want to see what they'll do.

The movie won't be nearly as brazen as the book. I live in the US and am not religious at all. Nevertheless, I remember saying "Holy Fuck" aloud when the book's "big mystery" unfolded. If a cynic like me was shocked, it's pretty certain that the movie's producers will water the film down as to avoid angry mobs of Fundies charging the theaters, pitchforks and torches in hand.

Yeah, I'm also an atheist in the US. I'm not anti-religion though, so it was a bit shocking when I figured out what was going on.

There's one thing though that I've been trying to figure out - see I "read" the series as Audio CDs while commuting to work every day, so I didn't get things like the spelling of names (though I did get the pronunciation of them which people who read text versions of the book don't get) and other text artifacts. There's one specific thing that I've been asking people and no one has been able to tell me; perhaps you could check for me? Near the end of the third book, the angel Xaphania (Zaphania? I don't know the spelling) tells Lyra that she was able to read the aletheometer by "grace." Was the word "grace" capitalized or lowercase?

I really want to know b/c if it was Grace with a capital, that changes the meaning to be outright saying that there *is* a Creator (within the series at least), though humans and other beings have never found Him, and it was He who gifted Lyra with the ability to read the aleitheometer. If it is a lowercase grace then it could either be interpreted that way, or that humans are sometimes capable of remarkable things and that this is what Xaphania meant when she said "grace."
