The Very Large Array: it's so -- clear. But it also makes me think of clothing sizes: S, M, L, XL, etc... ;) .
But it actually *is* very large, as opposed to clothing sizes. There's also a VLBA - very long baseline array. We have a bunch of other acronyms, some of which are actually clever. The only one I can think of right now is 2MASS: the Two-Micron All-Sky Survey with UMass as one of the main sponsors. Most aren't cever though.
