Someone close to you sits down with you and gives you a summary of who you are right now -- all of your activities, your relationships, and your interests.

"What would be the biggest surprise? Would you be pleased?"

The biggest surprise would be that I was living in New York, and married.

Then I would spend a long time sobbing about almost all the romantic relationships that mattered to me being completely eradicated in the course of five years.

A lot has happened in the last 5 years for me...

I would have been in college, I think Nick and I were casually dating at the time, and I still had my horse, and I wasn't working. I wasn't into birds at that time either.

I am not sure how I would feel. I think I would be upset...I would have lost so much emotional stuff in that time period it wouldn't be fair. I loved (in ways I didn't know were possible), lost (and felt the pain I never knew existed), learned (in addition to college, I learned about life - what it is to be an adult) and fought (about things I didn't know I even cared about), I grew up and graduated, began working full time and got married. I bought a house.

I wouldn't know what to do with out those. The last 5 years have probably been the most important ones of my life.

Dad quit his job? Grandma's 90! Huh -- seems I missed a few friends' weddings. I forgot learning to scuba dive in Thailand...guess I'll just have to do it again!

Being unable to remember a single thing I learned in grad school would be . . . devastating. On the other hand, not remembering Denver would mean I couldn't compare its climate to Boston's. heh

And I'd doubtless be a bit unnerved to learn that the cute guy I barely said "hi" to at a recent (that is, Jan 2003) party was now a serious living-with type of SO. But pleased. Cause gosh he sure was pretty :)
