Courts in Massachusetts have ordered Wal-Mart to start stocking emergency contraception (Plan B) as a "commonly prescribed medicine." The article says nothing about whether Walmart's pharmacists (like Target's) can choose not to dispense them unfortunately, but it's a step in the right direction. If they take that last step and change policy so that women are finally guaranteed all their legally prescribed medicines, I may resume shopping at Wal-Mart before I do at Target. :-P

I was glad to hear of the recent decision by Wal-Mart to comply with the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy directive to stock emergency contraceptive. I view Wal-Mart as a one-stop center for all my needs in life, from food to clothes to pharmaceuticals. Knowing that I will now be able to receive all the legally prescribed medications goes a long way towards improving my image of Wal-Mart.
For the past three years I have been boycotting Wal-Mart since I learned of its discriminatory practices in not stocking and dispensing commonly prescribed medicines for women. The final step that will allow me to resume my patronage of Wal-Mart will be for the corporation to adopt a policy that all its employees, including pharmacists, should perform their job duties regardless of any gender or religiously discriminatory personal preferences they may have.
I eagerly look forward to Wal-Mart continuing on their progressive trend into the 21st century and I hope that you consider the needs of customers such as myself when crafting corporate policy in the future.
