Is it less problematic when the guy and gal swap the parts on "Baby It's Cold Outside"? B/c Lady Gaga and Joseph Gordon-Levitt did so on the Muppets Thanksgiving Special.

less problematic? absolutely. for a number of reasons, including the usual business about the awfulness no longer being closely aligned with established power imbalances, and the way that it adds a certain amount of ironic detachment to the proceedings.

in principle, still not great though.

on the other hand, being problematic in this general sort of way, with enough meta and or ironic self-awareness thrown on to avoid the most direct complaints, is, approximately, Lady Gaga's only joke, so i'm just going to file it under that heading.

if you're interested in commentary on this you may want to poke around for commentary on previous gender-swapped releases - see, e.g., here.

at least the moment of cognitive dissonance caused by the genderswapping can make people think about what the song is really saying.
