I realized today that what worries me most about a potential accident isn't my hypothetical death, not even personal injury, it's the loss of my car. From a purely selfish point of view, if I die I'm dead, and that means I'm just not around anymore to worry about crap, so dying isn't that big a deal. I can't miss the good things in life because I'd be DEAD. That's not to say I *want* to die - I don't believe in an afterlife, so I'd rather make the most of this one, but there are certainly worse things that could happen.
For example, personal injury would really suck, I know that. However, one the one hand I can't really comprehend how much it'd suck, so I can't fully dread it. On the other hand, if I'm injured I'm sure that I'll fail in some of my duties, but it's entirely expected if you're hurt in a car crash. Can't really beat yourself up about that.
Losing my car would be the worst, b/c I'd still have the obligation to fulfill my duties exactly the same as before, but now without a car. I'd have to wake up an hour earlier to get to work, and if I left after something like 7:30 pm, I'd have to call a cab. I wouldn't be able to get to my infusion appointment tomorrow, at least not unless I cancelled a class, and I can't really afford to do that. Maybe I could borrow someone else's car? I couldn't reschedule it to next Wednesday, as timing is crucial plus next Weds I'm on a plane to a friend's wedding. And while I might be able to shuffle things so that I bought a car on THURSDAY evening, so I can drive home for the weekend, it'd suck to have to do that. Yeah, loss of my car would really be the worst thing that could happen to me in a car accident.
Tonight someone tried to change lanes through me. My horn wasn't a deterrant, but slamming on my breaks and swerving did effectively prevent my car's demise. Last week I lost a whole car in my blind spot - on the left, in the back. My convertible top means that when it's up there's a HUGE spot to lose cars in. To make me more embarassed, it was an SUV, in red! I caught it when I turned my head just before moving my car, so I'm glad I always do that. Everyone should - even if you have a smaller blind spot, you can still lose a motorcycle in it. That wouldn't be good.
Yeah, lots of rambling, hence the cut tag. :-P
