Don't forget that once a year you can order your credit report for free from the three major credit monitoring companies, Transunion, Equifax, and Experian. You can get it online to view online through Annual Credit Report.com, or you can get a paper copy through the mail or by calling 1-877-322-8228.

I recommend you don't do the calling up version: the voice recognition thingie is pretty typical - not that good. Amusingly it got my last name spelling incorrect the first time, and then they simply recorded it for a human to review later, and the same thing started to happen with my pervious address so I gave up and hung up.

I'd like a paper copy mailed to me b/c my printer isn't the best, but I presume I can probably save a hardcopy of the online version to print later. Since my printer's dying, I can't do a paper request since there's a form I can't fill out to send. *sigh* I'll figure it out. For now, I needa go drive across the state.

And even when you *DO* have everything under control, THEY may not. Last time I checked there were two issues: a credit card that my mom had opened under my name years and years ago and never bothered to close (technically my or my mom's error, now fixed), and a credit card that I used to be on with Mom still had me listed as being on the card and therefore claimed I had lots of debt. That one was their error, as I was actually removed from the card something like 6 years ago.
