Rosa Parks passed away yesterday evening at the age of 92. In 1955, in Motgomery Alabama, a bus driver told her she had to give up her front-of-the-bus seat to a white man. She refused and was arrested. After she was fined, she and others formed a group that organized a city-wide boycott by blacks (2/3 of the city's bus users) of the bus company. The boycott lasted over a year, and was organized by the young (26) Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
Blacks were second class citizens, not allowed to sit in the front of the bus if whites boarded.
What if homosexuals were told to move to the back of the bus when heterosexuals boarded? Gays aren't as important as straights, so they shouldn't be allowed the same rights as straights, such as priority seating in the front of the bus. If we declared that, it wouldn't be acceptable, now would it?
Then why do some people think it's acceptable to say gays are second class citizens when it comes to marriage? Straights are more important, it's ok if they marry, but not for gays!
