I don't know if that's an "Eeee!" of delight, or sheer terror. Apple has released the Macbook. It appears that neither the iBook nor Powerbook exist any longer. Eeee!
I called Apple Care tonight for my poor little G3 iBook. :( They say the reason various programs keep crashing is b/c I have only 3 Gigs of HD space left. Only 3 Gigs?!?! Since when did that become a small amount of space?
My poor baby's named Gir 3.1 - if you're not familiar with Invader Zim, Gir is this broken robot that's trying to help take over the world but gets distracted by things like a rubber piggy or a cartoon about the scary monkey. The "3" stands for the third fresh wipe of the whole hard drive, and the ".1" means the first OS upgrade on this particular HD wipe. I expect I'll be back to 4.0 after the next trip to the shop for her.
I'm hoping to get a new desktop PC this summer. Just not enough games for Macs, and my old PC isn't good enough to handle them. :-P Upgrading Gir will happen after that - once I pick out a name for it. :)
You should get a new hard drive - my Powerbook decided to go all toast on me right before I went out of town, so my geekmonkey took me to MicroCenter and bought a new 80GB hard drive. It had to be a specific type, but he said it was pretty easy to put in. And hard drives, evidently, are pretty cheap, considering.
My desktop Mac is a dual G4 with 4 (FOUR!) 250 GB drives, for a total of a TB. And it can still hang. GrrrrRRRRR!
Well, it never occurred to me that could be the issue until last night, so I hadn't yet thought about it. Will do so now. :) And I may move the main body of my music off it an onto my desktop.
Heh - I tend to spout advice quickly without warning; sorry about that. I myself had NO idea that you could put a new HD in a laptop - of course, when my PBook toasted, I was thinking, "ooo! instant upgrade!" yeah, I'm a dork like that. LOL.
there were still PowerBooks in the Apple store this afternoon, but the iBooks had vanished. ssh...don't let Herbie hear he's obsolete! but but...the MacBooks...COME IN BLACK. it can match Susan! ^_^
i'm not sure if the PowerBooks are going to continue to exist, or if they're just there until they sell out...
Yeah, I thought the black was sexy too. Until I saw that they COST MORE. Well, you get 80 Gigs instead of a mere 60, but you can't get the black one w/o the extra HD space. It seems like the "MacBook" replaced the iBook, and the "MacBook Pro" replaced the PowerBook.
ah, well. when i get one, it will be my dad buying me one for college, so he'll buy me the 80 GB anyway...or maybe i'll get a MacBook Pro because my sister got a PowerBook for college. except those don't seem to come in black, which sucks.
i think perhaps i saw the MacBook Pros from a distance and didn't realize they weren't PowerBooks, because they kinda look the same from the outside...
shhhh!
