Highlights:

  • AZ didn't amend their constitution for bigotry. [CNN] [Washington Post]

  • SD nixed the abortion ban, but also nixed gay marriage. [Washington Post]

  • PA cleaned up the Santorum.

  • 6 governors up for reelection changed to Dems (including MA, NY, and RI). [NPR]

  • Leiberman won CT on an independent ticket with 49.6%, the Dem took 39.9%, and the GOP was a mere 9.7%. [NPR/AP]

  • Democrats took the house. [CNN]

  • The Senate is still up for grabs though Dems netted 3 so far (+RI, OH, PA, MD, -CT). I heard on NPR radio that RI people felt bad they had to vote out their Republican Senator. He was really liked I guess, quite liberal for a Repub, but they didn't want the GOP to remain in control of the Senate.

  • Two states have independent Senators, making me wonder if Americans are starting to become disillusioned with the 2-party system.

I'm afraid I have to refute your last bullet there. In the case of Vermont, the old Independant caucused with the Democrats, and this one almost certainly will as well. The other one is Lieberman from Connecticut. He's not really an Independant so much as a Democrat that couldn't get his party's nomination. Still — the GOP will have a very hard time with the Senate, and I know I'm watching both VA and MT with bated breath.

independent senators really aren't a case of two-party dissilusionment - both individuals are beloved fixtures in their states.
