I went to A. C. Moore this evening right after chorus, originally to look for something that I could create as a star mirror dangle for my car. I found opalescent origami paper, but also yarn for a scarf to match my new jacket, and ribbon and a few nice turquoise beads to make a necklace to replace the one that I bought that's built for a fatter neck.

And then I found Blue Moon Beads Item 61556. They had all the others too, except 61576, which now that I see it is my favorite. I ransacked the aisles for beads to match and findings for what was now in my head, and left a hundred bucks the poorer an hour and a half later.

3 hours of procrastination and 2 hours of crafting later....

now
now
and then
and then

Cheaper than the last harebrained scheme I had, and I get it now, when I need it.

When were you there? I was there 6:30-7ish getting knitting supplies.

Apparently at the same time as you! I think around 6-7pm. I probably left the yarn section by 6:30, and was then in the beading until I left at 7ish. Surprised I didn't run into you at the checkout counter - you did mean the one on Lincoln, right? I *think* I would've recognized your face if I'd seen you, though I would've probably been *very* confused as to how I knew you. :-P

I sent you an email.

Oh, you're kidding. You'd probably just left the yarns when I got there. Heh.

I got it. I don't mind; see my email immediately following this comment for details.

Aah! That's nuts. :-P When I was in the yarns earlier I was thinking about a recent post by [livejournal.com profile] the_xtina that got me thinking about felting, and how I could crochet a scarf (I don't know how to knit yet) and felt it, but I don't know what yarns are good for felting, so I wished there was someone I could ask, but I didn't want to just ask a stranger, so I ended up just buying some tassle-ish yarn instead. Probably a good thing you didn't wander in while I was still there or I would've spent even more!

felting --> animal fiber. It's the proteins and cuticle structure of the animal hair that does it. Any wool yarn will felt, but you should always test a swatch to see how well, and how it will shrink.

What if the wool says it's "washable"? Doesn't that mean it won't felt?

It might have been treated; I'm not sure. Felting is a rougher process even than machine-washing--but if it advertises that it's machine-washable, I'd go with something else for felting.

Oh, PS.

White yarn usually won't felt, because the bleaching process strips off the cuticles.
