Princess Sayako of Japan has married her commoner fiancé, Yoshiki Kuroda, in a Shinto-style ceremony in Tokyo.
Thousands of well-wishers lined the streets between the royal palace and the city hotel where the half-hour marriage rite took place.

Under a 1947 law, female royals in Japan automatically become commoners when they are married.
Lifestyle switch
The 36-year-old princess loses her royal title and allowance upon marriage to commoner Mr Kuroda, 40, who works for the Tokyo city authorities.
