OMG, you don't think Charmmy Kitty's going to grow up to be anthropomorphic, do you?! Maybe this's all just an analogy for how premarital sex leads to unwanted babies! And hampsters! And mutant cartoon cats with heads bigger than their bodies!
Though I do have to say that toddlers and pets have a lot in common. They get cranky at bedtime, train you to give them treats, and even follow you into the bathroom. Toddlers grow out of it though - and they also grow out of loving you when they hit their teenage years. Pets don't grow out of loving you at least; either they do, or they're cats.
Actually, my older cat has grown much more lovey as she's gotten older! When we got her she was a one-year-old teenage firecracker who ran laps around the house and climbed the walls and wouldn't sit on your lap for love nor money. Now, at age six, all she wants to do is sprawl on the lap of one of her humans and have her head scratched. Who'da thunk it?
I always say that babies are like pets that you can't shut in their cages when they get obnoxious. ;)
(It should be noted that none of my pets are ever shut in cages except for the birds. Just, y'know, to clarify that.)

And yeah, I don't like shutting Gabe in her cage as a form of punishment or control or whatever. The closest I get is putting an extra layer over her cage cover if she wakes up before me and tries to talk to the sparrows at 4am. Otherwise I try to actually figure out what's bothering her and fix it. My friends have pointed out to me that she's got me trained and that I cater to her every whim. *grin* What can I say, it keeps her happy!
