I started calling too late. I didn't realize places would close at noon. I called 9 places and they all either didn't have time for us before they close, or don't do birds, or a billion other things. necropsy is supposed to be done w/in 24 hours. my vet's in with a patient right now and the receptionist said she'd have him call me back after, I'd like to talk w/ him directly to ask about if anything can be found out if I brought her in Wednesday. I may call back Tufts again too, to ask them about it again - they have an actual pathologist (though not today and the emergency receptionist said they would only call them in if there's a criminal investigation or if there are threats to humans' health) so I suspect their skills would be better and be more likely to get some info than if my vet performed the necropsy.

If you keep her body wrapped in moist paper towels more will be still intact for a late necropsy, but birds' bodies will still decompose much faster then a mammal's. By Wednesday the liver, kidneys, and lymph system will be unrecognizable, and the air sacs and digestive system will be much harder to examine, but the heart, brain, and lungs will still be in about the same shape. The brain would be what I personally want to look at the most. The skeleton will still be in the same shape as well, and with how she died the brain and neck seem to me to be the most important to look at. You would just have to find a vet who would be willing to do a necropsy when not all will be visible, and with a pathologist available that shouldn't be too hard.

It was about three days before I could finally get a necropsy done on Maria but the clot that caused her stroke and the brain damage that caused her sudden death were still visible.

Thanks, the moist part is something that had been baffling me. I think I will ask T$ to do that for me.
