It's been a recurring discussion in my household, so I figured since I'm procrastinating, it's about time to get others' opinions.

[Poll #1131954]

Edit: To clarify, Person A contends they don't need to shower all that often, and therefore are inherently unstinky. On the other hand, Person B contends that since they shower daily, that they are always perpetually unstinky b/c of being recently cleaned.

Category 2 seems to be a subset of category 1.

Clarification above.

I commented in my "Um" response, but my real answer is that I don't think either person is stinkier, as long as A actually does shower when/before s/he gets stinky.

Or if either person just has some odd genetic quirk that makes them glandularly stinky.

Well, a lot of the stink comes from bacteria that live off your sweat, as opposed to being a scent that your own body emits. That said, people do emit some smell themselves, and certain people's sweat can be more appealing to the bacteria.

That's me. :-P Everyone else seems to think I'm extraordinarily stinky. It's a time saver for me though, I see no reason to be wasting my time (not to mention water and so on) if I don't need a shower.

Ditto! There are so many more interesting things to do than obsessively shower every day.

I know someone who showers everyday and douses himself in cologne and BOY IS HE STEEEEEEEENKY!

As long as I don't have to drive cross country with him I can deal, but that's an unusual thing -- most people in our modern sedentary lives don't manage to smell human anymore...

Like BO stinky, or fake cologne stinky? I was thinking like BO stinky myself. But I definitely hate it worse when I can smell someone's scents than their BO.

I once had a sneezing fit after I noticed a student's perfume in lab - unlike most students this one realized immediately it was her fault and never wore it around me again. I also warn students that if I can smell that they're a smoker in lab, I'm less likely to walk by and offer them help. I can usually tell who's the pot smokers too. They're so silly when I tell them that and they're shocked. :-P

Like BOTH stinky.

I don't like BO stinky, but can deal with it for a short time -- the person has no choice. But cologne/perfume stinky? That's definitely a choice.

I've only ever smelled cigarettes on my students, and that goes away relatively quickly...but I am never surprised by student obliviousness!
