*Glee!* I'm definitely considering the bonded pair of GCCs. My boyfriend is okay with me getting two birds (for the price of one) - he did not exercise his veto power. He is slightly concerned about the increased noise level, but I am too so apparently he trusts me to determine whether it is acceptable. He is not at all concerned about the increased time commitment as that's my problem as their caretaker, not his. :-P My landlord is also okay with two birds rather than one, says he doesn't notice the noise two floors away and the person in between us is laid back and keeps odd hours so may not even be home while they're awake.

I have yet to meet the birds, and there are (as expressed a while ago) lots of questions I still have. The main one is just how tame they are - the rescue woman described them as "slightly tame." I have no clue just how tame she thinks "slightly" is, though she warned me that it will take more time with two keeping them tame than it would with one, and said that they're "remarkably" tame for a bonded pair. My last 'tiel came to me tame but not socialized - she was willing to step up, but would rather fly away than stay on me at the time, and warmed up to me more as time went on. If that's how they are, I know I can work with it. Other situations, I won't know until I meet them. We're now working on scheduling a meeting.

FWIW, the woman is asking a $250 adoption fee for the two birds with their cage and toys. I don't yet have the dimensions of their current cage, but she said it's bigger than the Everyone's Favorite Cage that I have when I gave those dimensions. The fee does appear steep for an adoption fee, but reasonable for a purchase price, and if I like them it is a reasonable price to me. I'm not yet 100% convinced that she isn't making a profit despite her non-profit status, but I expect that actually meeting her will help ease my mind. Someone remind me to inquire about a health guarantee and vet records, especially since she doesn't accept personal checks.

Okay, now I'm making myself (needlessly? I hope) worried...

Edit: Because people have asked, the place is a bird rescue, Beaks and Noses (site has annoying music, you may wish to turn your speakers off first), which is part of Toy Dog Rescue (as their URL makes clear), and it's essentially run out of one woman's house named Ellen (that's who I've talked to) with a few foster families elsewhere. She says she has non-profit status, but it just feels kinda ... unprofessional ... to me.

Edit 2: I have an appointment to meet them on Friday! *more glee*

I would never again have a bonded pair. The reason being that because they have each other, they don't have time for me, don't want to make time for me. Now, I have quakers, who can be bitchier than most, but IME, when they are away from each other they are sweet. When they are together, I get an awful lot of bloody bites. I have a lot of scars on my hands :P My kids can't even go near the cage when they are together, and get attacked pretty much for looking at them. I have separated them before as experiments by putting them in separate rooms, and each becomes much more handleable.

YMMV, but if you are looking for a companion bird for yourself, that you want to focus on you, I would not get a bonded pair.

That's definitely something I'm going to be looking for when I meet them, but thanks for the reminder. Might be another reason for me to keep my old cage as well as the new cage. I am primarily looking for a companion for myself, but I do like the idea of them having company so they don't become as codependant as my past birds. I felt so bad for Gabe sometimes when she didn't yet know who I was and didn't have anyone else, and when my neighbors babysat for her she made friends with their budgies, and then I had to take her away from her friends when I came home! :-\
