I came home to find Kappa's beak covered in food. :-P Yay, she's eating. And not only is she eating, but she's eating with her feet - she picks up a piece in her beak, realizes it's too big, grabs it in a foot, and breaks off smaller pieces to eat. *Gwah!* ^_^

That's so wonderful! It looks like she's getting used to the place much faster than you thought!

That's good news :]!
I love it when you can watch birds realize things.... I cam remember Jomei's first experience with yogurt. What a debacle that was...

that sounds messy. [there are famous photos of my first childhood experience with yogurt.]

Aw! As much as I love cockatiels that's something I miss with just the little guys.

Soon she will be comfortable enough to wipe her messy beak on your shirt!

Gabe occasionally used a foot with things, such as holding a toy steady that she was working on, or holding a tippy bowl. It always made me giggle, which usually made her stop. :-P

Kappa's totally a monkey-bird. Maybe I should've gone with T$'s suggestion of Monkeybutt as a name. ;)

Autumn will sometimes eat with her feet, but only for a treat and only if she felt she needed to, like when someone tries to kick her out of a food dish or when handed food somewhere she can't put it down to nibble on. Then again, Autumn also loves fruit, so she can't be considered a typical cockatiel!

Aw :) It was the eating with the feets thing that endeared me to Claude. It really never gets old.

She's a monkey, I tell you! A monkey!

(And she's going to take over the world!)

Not if you keep the tools locked up!

Doesn't matter! I swear one of these days she's going to open her cage, walk over to my tool box, pick the lock, and take out a hammer. Or else she'll make her own!

More cuteness: While T$ was watching, she jumped onto a round rope swing, monkeyed around the top of it, and then hung upside down from the bottom for a bit.

More good news: She's used to getting her veggies in the morning, so this morning I did that, and she's totally chowing down on them! :) Now how do I convince her to eat them in the evening instead, when it's easier for me to prep them?

Hmm, maybe offer gradually fewer and fewer veggies in the morning and more and more in the evening?

Although you never know; she may figure out how to bust into the fridge and get them on her own terms.
