This quiz will prove it or not. I've posted this before, but [livejournal.com profile] the_xtina reminded me of it and I just had to share the agony. That is, if you aren't tone deaf, it's agony. I actually did get one wrong, so I'm not as good as I think, but I don't know which. Most of the songs are traditional/folk/patriotic music from the US, some Christmas carols, some super famous classical themes. If you grew up in the US you should know them.

Songs have to remain in one key/scale? I didn't know this, haha

Most songs do, not all. :) When folk/pop songs change key, it's usually in the last verse/chorus repetition for dramatic effect, but within each verse/chorus you have to stay in the same key.

In case you are unfamiliar with the concept of a key, you can describe it as what notes you use relative to the first note in the song. It's like if you sang through all of "Mary Had a Little Lamb", and then started it over, but with a different start note. If you can stand country music, Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying" has a key change at 3:19.

Edit: Oh, so my point is if you have a decent musical ear, you can tell if a note is wrong even if you don't know the song.
