Plastic Mattress Cover?

Anybody use a plastic mattress cover to protect it from stains and/or keep in/out allergens? I'm thinking about giving one a shot for my allergies, so ideally I'd want one that's air tight. I worry that they sound/feel all crinkly and plasticky.

My limited experience with mattress/pillow covers has been you get what you pay for. I have a non-sealed cover for my bed and it was very expensive (like around $100) and the warranty is great and I've never noticed it, its soft and you can't hear it. Avery's was a cheap (again not sealed) target one - it is so FREAKING LOUD.

Both my pillows are in sealed, but not airtight covers. They were mid/low range in price and they are loud and take forever to lose all the air.
