Google is rolling out new TOS and "Privacy" Policy effective March 1. Among these is hidden the following:

We may use the name you provide for your Google Profile across all of the services we offer that require a Google Account. In addition, we may replace past names associated with your Google Account so that you are represented consistently across all our services. If other users already have your email, or other information that identifies you, we may show them your publicly visible Google Profile information, such as your name and photo.

Since government-approved Latin-character names are still required for your profile, this means that your government-approved name will not only be shown everywhere Google, but also to everyone who knows your email address.

I don't understand how this is any better than what Facebook does with our privacy. I thought Google + was trying to make itself more appealing by making it easier to protect privacy. Thanks for sharing!

Google + is trying to make it easier to protect certain very specific types of privacy, but it completely steamrolls over other types. Basically it makes it easier/more convenient to filter the content of certain posts to some people and not others. That's it. It hasn't shown any sign of caring about other aspects of privacy.

IMO Google doesn't care about privacy. Google is trying to collect as much data as possible about us to sell that data to its real clients: the advertisers. If they can connect our pseudonyms to our government-approved names, then that is more data for Google's clients.

This really is a big eff up on their part :S
