Composting Card Offers

If you've ever tossed a credit card application in the trash, even after tearing it up, read this (it's 3 pages long), and be scared. I shred, and then toss the shreds in my worm bin.

I tear it up, but the well-shuffled scraps go out in 3 separate trash receptacles, on 2 different trash weeks.

What bugs me is that the offers and whatnot will keep getting sent to an old address after you've moved, and not necessarily forwarded--at least, this has happened to me. Who knows who might end up with them.

I don't actually get card offers that often, probably b/c I don't respond to them and try not to give out my info for mailing lists. When I move, I always get mail forwarding - do they send on credit card offers?

The shredded is used more for those fake checks that cards you own send - it's for transferring balances or something, but I've never had a balance so they're pointless and a liability to me.

It doesn't matter if you respond to them or not. You *can* get yourself taken off of certain mailing lists, but to my knowledge, offers aren't sent based on responses. They certainly aren't for me. I don't respond to them--haven't in YEARS, and I still get them every now and again. If you carry a card, you're fair game to get other offers.

Actually, I think I only responded to one once, when I was 19 or so. I doubt that would eternally place me on a list.

Subscribe to any magazines? Companies can buy subscription lists. We do it at work to send our fundraising letters.

My point is that you don't have to be someone who responds to the offers to get them.
