My Heat

Mar. 28th, 2007 08:08 am
As you may or may not recall, I pay just over $200/month for my gas heat bill, but electric heat is free. I must have the heat on if it drops below 24ºF out - under that temperature, a space heater is insufficient to keep my bedroom warm enough for Gabe and I. The bedroom can survive higher but still cold temperatures, but the rest of the house will be cold - if it's under something like 40ºF out, without the gas heater the rest of the house will be under 65º, the point at which my fingers are numb when typing.

Now that this week is in the 50's and 60's, it's time to decide whether to shut the heat off. What do you think?

[Poll #955499]
To anyone else with a worm bin, I've a question. I went to harvest some soil from it (I was repotting plants), and I noticed the soil was very gray, and not the rich brown I was expecting and had seen in the past. What causes this, and is it still good to use? My best guess is that I've been low on the "green" content lately (as in fresh veggies), and high on the paper pulp. There were LOTS of worms, at least one in every spoonful, so it's not a shortage of digestion.

A plumber is supposed to come in the morning, at 7:30am!!!, and start work on stuff. I usually get up between 7 and 7:30, but I'm gonna try and be *ready* by 7:30 tomorrow morning, and leave a little after he gets there, and actually work on campus. Grading I have to do and all, y'know.
