This xkcd isn't too far from my experience with Google Maps during my recent road trip. It saw into the future (I-840 in NC didn't yet exist, and "Future I-840" ended at Exit 19 where Google Maps told me to get off at Exit 21), and it didn't see into construction (I-95 didn't have an exit 351C in Florida). I guess this is why they recommend a sanity check at the bottom in fine print on all their directions.
I've seen a widget-type thing, Google Maps mashup, where visitors to a website enter their zip code or address or something else, and then the mapsite generates a Google Map with flags for everyone's location. Some people put this as a plug-in sorta thing on their blog page, or webcomics do it too. But I can't find it! It's a famous one and I can't remember the name, and Google search isn't helping me.

Anyone know the sorta thing I'm thinking of? If so, give me the name and link me up!

[livejournal.com profile] gemini6ice just linked to this map server for Boston that overlays Google maps (street maps, satellite, or hybrid) with the T lines and stations, including station names! That's sooooo awesome. *grin*
Ooh, this looks like an interesting article - it's apparently a biography of the nation's interstate system, and for me it's pure mapporn! *grin* However, the following severely mangled nest of mixed metaphors made me cringe.

So it's hard to believe that America's freeway system turns 50 this summer — a chronological blip on the tectonic plates too slight for a spectrometer, but in the life of our republic, a golden anniversary.

*shudder*
