Birds

I'm already thinking about birds. The house is lonely. And T$ said he'd probably be willing to feed a bird when we someday live together if I'm not home. :-P

I would like something a bit more playful than a cockatiel (cameo alert!), which Peeper was, although she was really sweet. I'm under the impression that quakers (no, not you sammka) might be exactly the type of bird I want, but due to being a highly successful invasive species they're regulated or illegal in some states (including PA since 1973, where I have in the past and may in the future spend occasional summers). So maybe a conure, since they're more legal and mobile, but I get the impression they're louder and less loving. Plus it turns out there's many species of conure...

Anyone know more about mid-sized birds?

I personally love Conures, though I don't know that much about them - we had a Nanday conure (with the black head) which has an OBNOXIOUS squawk. But he'd pick my earwax and gladly get the little bits of corn I'd have stuck between my teeth. ... Seriously, I'm not kidding, even though it's gross as hell. He'd love to groom me! He'd pick at my scalp, too.

Then we got a Sun Conure, and they bonded to each other and didn't want much to do with us. I think Conures are a very intelligent and nice bird, because they appear to bond to you. But that's about all I know....

When we first got Peeper, she'd try and "clean" my braces off me... She also loved playing in Mom's hair, though she never paid mine much attention - maybe b/c she always gets hers permed curly.

Apparently in Japan cleaning out earwax is seen as no more gross than doing your nails, and just like you can go to a salon and get a manicure, you can go to a special place to get your ears cleaned out.
