I'm sure everyone has heard of the famous gay penguins, Silo and Roy, at the New York City Central Park Zoo. After six years of being mated, their keeper discovered that they kept trying to hatch rocks, so he gave them a real egg to foster, which they did successfully in Feburary 2004. Now however, Silo has had a change of heart. He's broken up with Roy and mated with a GIRL penguin of all things, named Scrappy. Their egg didn't work out. Poor Roy is heart-broken and has been showing pedophilic tendancies, but so far he's kept them in check and just been hanging out with the kids.

The question I have now is "Is Silo ex-gay, or is he just bi and playing the field?" Since Silo can't tell us himself, we're just going to have to watch and see how it all plays out.

I had to call the gas company today, to tell them that they'd have to contact my landlord if they wanted to put in a new meter. After a reasonalby terminable set of menus, I was told that I'd have to wait to speak with an agent, and the wait would be five to seven minutes. My call was very important to them and would be answered in the order it was received. However, they had this really awesome virtual queue with no elevator music thing - I left my name and number and they called me back when I got to the top of the line! Then I waited some fifteen seconds as they patched me through to an agent, and it was all done in under another minute. It was awesome. :) Yay NStar!
A recent CNN article about parental notification laws in New Hampshire got me thinking. As I understand it, the argument goes that parents are legally responsible for all that children do, so they should be notified if their minor child has an abortion. Furthermore, some states go on to say that the minor even needs parental consent to have the abortion, again presumably because the adults are older and wiser than the child (as evidenced by her unprotected sex, or her inability to prevent her rape). For me, this begs quite a few questions.

  1. This one (set) is probably already written in each parental consent law, but I've never heard it mentioned. Does the minor need the consent of both parents/guardians? Or only one? What if they disagree? What if one parent has custody? What if the minor is a ward of the state?

  2. If a minor is forced to have an unwanted child by her parents (or even if she wants the baby), who is legally responsible for the well-being of the baby?

  3. If the parents are given the right to prevent an abortion, shouldn't they also have the right to force an abortion?

And with those happy thoughts, I bid you good night!
