In cleaning my house, I just discovered a whole slew of 2003 Paris photos, all on film. The B&W ones I need to find a negative scanner. The color ones I got a CD of when I had them developed, so they're going up on my Flickr account. Someone prod me if I don't remember to feature some of the good ones here. Meanwhile, sadly, my pro Flickr account is to expire at the end of the week. :(

And heh, uploading my photos to Flickr via my desktop PC is apparently slowing down my network, as Pandora is stalling here on my Mac. :-P Amusing. Never noticed network slowdowns before.

are you sure it's a network thing and not a memory thing? Pandora adds RAM-usage for each subsequent track. if it's been playing for a while, that could be the problem. it may help just to restart your browser.

Hm, could be. Didn't occur to me. I'll give it a shot.

I would have to agree that a memory problem is more likely than a bandwidth issue from uploading pictures and downloading a music stream.
As far as the scanner, isn't having something like this fairly easily obtainable through some part of your school one of the perks of working in academia? :)

You forget, I work in academia-lite. We don't even have access to astronomy journals online on campus. I doubt we have a negative scanner, and if we did, they probably don't want me to use it for personal reasons. But I'll ask around just in case.

I'm basing it on the community college by me, which has a pretty good art program and graphic design program with a lot of pretty neat equipment.
I can understand not having access to astronomy journals, they're not cheap and would only be for a very few people (possibly only you). Does your school have a relationship with a nearby 4 year school that might have subscriptions you could use?

Our graphic arts program isn't that great. I could ask, but I think one of my friends at work has a negative scanner at home so she seems easier to ask to me.

I can get articles on ILL (Inter Library Loan), which means that some other institution photocopies them and mails or faxes them to our library, and then I get to keep it. It works, but it's slower than I want. I want it all! *insert evil laugh*

I hate having to get scanned articles. Half the time I end up needing at least two of the references and having to wait for them is unacceptable. Fulltext online journal access is one of the greatest inventions ever, especially when combined with scifinder. I feel so bad for people who had to go through actual paper journals all the time.

Thankfully I don't need articles too often, and I can always get the abstracts online which will indicate whether I actually need the whole article or not. Sometimes I ask friends at other schools to get them for me electronically b/c that's easier. Preprints of many astro and physics papers are fully available online too, so sometimes I can get a preprint when I can't get a final published version.
