It's a great philosophy to keep in mind when talking online or via email with people. We so often jump to conclusions about what people mean and can easily end up in horrible arguments online. Even if they did mean poorly, isn't it better to treat them well than to continue the argument?

I worry at times that I might be too naive about human nature, but if people really are evil all the time, I'd rather pretend otherwise. Reminds me I need to post the conclusion of My Little Plagiarist.

Same thing with liberals vs. conservatives, for example the abortion battle. Both sides feel they're doing the right thing. It's what makes the fights so bitter.

I would really strongly disagree. There have been times when I did things out of cruelty or meanness and did not at all mean well.

I would like to think that most people mean well most of the time. Assuming so makes me happier, and means that I do not need to react defensively when I think someone is attacking me but instead need to reinterpret their words as meaning well but being poorly worded. I know that at times I am wrong, but I would rather be wrong than assume ill of people all the time.

I couldn't put that into 5 words or less though.
