Terminator and The Matrix

I seem to recall reading in someone's LJ, most likely datan0de's, the possibility that the Terminator and Matrix series could theoretically be the same universe / continuity. Anyone care to discuss further or have places to point me to read about others discussing it further?

I just watched the original Terminator, and it's got me wanting to write fanfic - I haven't done creative writing in forever.

Both movies have fulfilled their trilogies now, right? The studios should look into a cross-over release! I mean, everyone loved AvP and FvJ, right?

Terminator has had four movies and a TV series. I feel like they'd be reluctant to give anything up at this point.

From what I've heard, the tv series doesn't exactly match in continuity with the last movie.

But, then, again, the series involves time-travel and alternate timelines, so it could very well be retroconned to be continuous.

Exactly! I haven't done any creative writing in ages, and I just decided to write a fanfic where the original movie had a different outcome, invalidating all of T2 and most of T3/SCC (whichever version you accept), but still allowing for both T:S (T4) and Schwarzenegger to be sent back to start T1.

The only person I've seen mention it is arctangent; the only LJ reference I can find is here, where it actually happens to be addressed to you. I know I saw him write a lot more about it somewhere, but can't find any evidence on LJ, so it must have been an AIM conversation.
