CNN's outdone itself in a headline that reads the exact opposite of reality.

Headline: "Gal wearing 1 dress every day for year"

My reading of it: "Gal wears a different dress every day for a year, for a grand total of 365 dresses." Curious what the big deal was (and out of non-work things to do on the intertubes), I clicked.

Reality: "Gal wears the same dress for a year, for a grand total of 1 dress." Social activist, Sheena Matheiken, from India got her designer friend to make a versatile dress, 7 copies of it in fact. Matheiken is wearing one of the 7 copies every day for a year, accessorizing it to the hilt, and raising donations for education in India.

...except for the continued dripping and the REALLY sore throat. Funny thing is, it doesn't seem to interfere much with talking. *knocks on wood*

I'm going w/ the Chinese dress. Pictures after I hope.

I'm going to a friend's wedding on Thanksgiving Saturday, she's the bride. The attire is semi-formal, the ceremony will be non-denominational, the bride is wearing a dress from J.Crew and the groom a kilt, and the bride is Chinese. I'm torn between wearing a strappy floor-length dress that's gold underneath with black mesh over (two crappy pictures here and here), and a Chinese-style ("Mandarin style") dress from my Nga Boo with half sleeves, a collar, and ends just below the knee, in yellow brocade (somewhat like this in cut).

I'm actually having the Chinese dress fitted and picking it up tomorrow afternoon, so if it's not ready that'll make my choice for me. While I feel like the Chinese one is a more appropriate level of attire (the long one seems a bit *too* formal), it strikes me that b/c of its outlandishness that it could be worn in many more circumstances than the long one, so I should wear the long one when I can. The bride's planning to have another reception in NYC a few months away, so it could be worn then, for example, presuming I'm invited which seems a reasonable presumption since she said she'd invite my parents.

I also have shoes and a purse for the long dress, and I'd have to throw something together for the Chinese-style one.

Any thoughts?
And I forgot to mention, I've got a lovely cyst on my abdomen - in the front a couple inches under my belly button, right where my pants waistline inevitably rubs. Started on Sunday - so there were TWO reasons to not be staying on campus for the Hunt, that and the toothache. Last couple nights I wore a long shapeless comfy cotton dress for sleep instead of my usual sleep pants, and today I wore overalls out - both items without a waistline. I'd been considering wearing lowrise jeans and a long shirt, but I found the overalls first and they fit my mood better than sexy pants.

Socks!

I just made the best damned fleece socks in the world! They better fucking be after I broke two sewing machine needles on the second one, and by golly they are. ^_^

[I was using pins to mark where to sew, and ran the needle right over the plastic head of the pin. The first time the needle broke at the eye and so fell apart, the second time it broke right over the eye, leaving the end of the needle around the thread. Thankgoodness nothing else in the machine broke, and I have a goddess for a mother as she gave me 15 replacement needles with the machine itself.)

I'm awesome. I now have matching fleece socks and scarf, and I'm going to try a hat and gloves soon. It took me around 2 hours to make the socks. :( I'm sure I'll get faster, but I don't know how much faster, or faster enough to be worth it, or how fast I'll get faster... Man, if a half-hour scarf is worth $15, these things shoudl be worth $60 all by themselves!
