Woot.com is selling a Roomba for $150 today only. It includes the Roomba, base charger, 2 virtual walls, spare brushes, and a couple other little things. That's a good price for that.

Mine's quite useful for cleaning bird messes.

I bought a .wma player - SanDisk's "Sensa Clip" 1GB for $40. I figured that buying multiple audio books will cost lots more than that, so why not?

I couldn't install the OverDrive program on my PC b/c I needed an internet connection to download the other parts of OD. So I shlepped the PC out to the living room where I could actually wire it into the router. Have I mentioned it's so old it barely is able to handle WinXP? And by "barely" I think I now mean "it doesn't". Crashed Windows Explorer multiple times. No programs really want to run, whether Windows Media Player (tried to burn CDs), or the OD program (to transfer the files). So I installed upgrades, crashed a few more times, updated virus scans, locked up the screen for long delays, am currently defragging everything and will do a scan disk next.

Meanwhile I plugged the .wma unit into my laptop, transferred the files (via drag'n'drop) from my USB thumb drive to the unit, and am now charging it - I can't actually *play* them yet b/c the stupid thing needs an OK from Overdrive or another Windows box to tell it it's allowed to play them. Friggin'. I only have the books "checked out" for another few days, what do you want to bet I'm not allowed to play them after that date, even though I transferred them? So since the PC is still puking all over the place, and I'm going to campus (over Break!) for a meeting tomorrow anyway, I'll try plugging the thing in to my work PC and see if it'll play nice.

Meanwhile the Roomba is either sick or on drugs, as he's making small circles in reverse, as opposed to actually vacuuming a room. T$'s turn to call that one in.

Oh duh, RSS feed on LJ here: [livejournal.com profile] wootdotcom!

Background: T$ bought us a Roomba via Woot; I bought my parents one that I'll be giving to them at the end of the week; and I want to buy one for a (married) couple friends now, and it's a pain to check every day. Woot has a different electronics item every day, dirt cheap, but always for only one day only, so normally you have to watch it like a hawk to make sure you get what you want. But now I get to watch an RSS feed on LJ!
Long live Mr. Roomba!

His brushes have continued to not turn, other than for some 5 minutes after a thorough cleaning. So I called Roomba support this evening, and brushes not turning is covered under warranty - by a replacement of the unit. The new one will arrive within 3-10 business days, and we are to ship back the old one at our own expense ($6-8 via FedEx or UPS, so not too bad).

This makes me so sad, we're losing Mr. Roomba! I have to keep reminding myself that losing an old Mr. Roomba means gaining a new one... So sad! :'(
Lots of dust, a few snips of cat hair, and 2/3 a can of air later, Mr. Roomba's as good as new and cleaning the house again. ^_^ Yay!
Mr Roomba has a new hobby: he's learned how to weave cat hair into yarn via his many brushes and gears. Said cat hair is in abundant supply from a cat that lived here two tenants ago. I've been cleaning for two weeks straight and said cat hair is still in abundant supply.

Roomba

OMFG, T$ got us a Roomba and it arrived today! I'm so excited, it looks like so much fun. ^_^ We have to charge it for 16 hours to start though. We have to pick up 4 D batteries for the virtual wall units (2 units, 2 D's each), and I'm now searching for AA batteries for the remote. And we'll have to move wires out of the way and such, that's a pain, but we'll deal. ^_^ He's so cute! We need to name him.
