OMFG, T$ got us a Roomba and it arrived today! I'm so excited, it looks like so much fun. ^_^ We have to charge it for 16 hours to start though. We have to pick up 4 D batteries for the virtual wall units (2 units, 2 D's each), and I'm now searching for AA batteries for the remote. And we'll have to move wires out of the way and such, that's a pain, but we'll deal. ^_^ He's so cute! We need to name him.

OMG! I want one, too! They're SOOOO cute! And so very, very, very useful. Yes, he demands to be anthropomorphized ;) .

^_^ T$'s less into anthropomorphizing than I am, but he's more into technology, so put the two together and it should work out ok. The various bird communities I'm on really talk up the Roomba as being great for cleaning bird messes. I had him running for a minute accidentally before I figured out how to plug him in for his initial 16-hr charge, and he sounded a lot quieter than a normal vacuum which I like, Gabe wouldn't like a real vacuum noise. Won't get to try him out until we get back from traveling though, oh well.

My Roomba is one of my best purchases ever, hands down. It's quieter than a normal vacuum and picks up more dust than a normal vacuum. It does a fantastic job on fur, dust, bird crumbs, rabbit poop, and all the other dirt that gets tracked into the house. It saves me many, many hours of sweeping and swiffing the house.

The only downside is that it doesn't do corners very well, so every so often I have to use a dustpan and brush or the handheld dustbuster to get those spots. No big deal.

Ours is simply named "Roomby." We refer to him as our sixth pet, the one who cleans up after the other pets. He's very cute. :)

Our birds don't really like the Roomba. They were terrified of it for a little while, but quickly got used to having it run around the floor. If I pick it up and carry it around (even just its butt compartment, to empty it out), they'll squawk and flap away from it. They're getting gradually better about it as time passes.

Do you really have to replace the filter every 2 months like the manual says?

Mr. Roomba's charging up right now for its initial 16-hr charge. Do you suppose you could unplug it when you come tomorrow morning? It's located in the living room near the iMac.

Sure thing!

Nah, we haven't changed the filter yet and it's still working fine. (And we run ours every day!) Maybe it isn't catching as much dust as a brand-new filter would, but I haven't noticed a difference. I'll probably change the filter every 6 months or so.

One thing I've noticed is that the long rubber roller thing on the bottom next to the dirt compartment got really ratty looking really quickly. It still works fine, but I was worried about it for a little while. Just wanted to save you the worry in case it happens to yours. :)

So "Davros" is out of the question?

Ooh, I'll have to run that one by T$. It seems promising to me.

DESTROY IT NOW!

If you bring it into your home, it will only sow chaos, terror, and destruction. Heed the words of the the Orange Catholic Bible - Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a man's mind.

Give them a vacuum cleaner and they will only demand plasma cannons. And you will have only yourself to blame!

Hey, I resent that! *My* mind isn't a vacuum! Oh wait, machines in the likeness of woman's mind are ok. Hm, so I'm back to square one on the roomba....
